Hundreds have been told to evacuate their homes in the face of wild bushfires.

More than 80 firefighters are battling an enormous blaze in Bunbury, south of Perth.

An emergency warning has been issued to residents as the fire remains ‘unpredictable and out of control’.

The fire, which began around 1.30pm, is quickly moving west and north across the city, threatening lives and homes.

Dramatic pictures show the city’s buildings and roads smothered in clouds of thick smoke. As many as 70,000 live in the Great Bunbury area.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services tweeted just before 8pm saying ‘act now to survive.’
